heartthumpingexcitementMana Aida is a young girl, fourteen years of age, who tries to be as helpful to others as she possibly can. Friends with Hishikawa Rikka and Yotsuba Alice since they were both young, the two of them went on to become members of their school's student council, with Mana becoming the class president. In addition, she remained friends with Alice even though she started attending another school. When she was younger, she had a pet down named Maro, who unfortunately ended up being hit by a car. She lost her grandmother, Isuzu, soon afterward. It was only through the support of her friends that she was able to endure this, and ultimately, it left a lasting impression on Mana's sense of values and helping to mold her into the driven, helpful person she became.
One day, on a field trip, a group known as the Selfishness began their invasion of Mana's world by using the greedy feelings in two individuals' hearts to create two monstrous crab Selfishness, which began to run amok. Mana, after seeing the Selfishness defeat a Precure named Cure Sword, was approached by a fairy named Cheryl, who prompted Mana to transform into a Precure herself. Though Mana was unsure herself of how to exactly DO so, the first Selfishness was defeated by Cure Sword... only for the second to appear and take hold of Sword. It was then that Mana unlocked her ability to transform, using an item called a Loveads that was given to her by a mysterious stranger named Joe Okada, becoming Cure Heart for the first time. Cure Heart defeated the second Selfishness, but Cure Sword rebuffed her offer to team up with her, and left, alone.
Events followed where Mana's friend Rikka also became a Precure (Cure Diamond, respectively), though it came after significant drama regarding Mana keeping the truth of what occurred from her. Likewise, Alice became a Precure as well, taking the moniker of Cure Rosetta. Both girls were partnered with two of Cheryl's fellow fairies, Raquel and Lance. In short order, they also learned Cure Sword's true identity, the idol Kenzaki Makoto, and earned her friendship when the four of them were drawn into the ruins of Makoto's homeland, the Trump Kingdom, and learned of her past and how the land was destroyed by the Selfishness. From here, they became a team, committed to restoring the Trump Kingdom, defeating the Selfishness, and finding the Trump Kingdom's princess, Marie Ange, who'd been separated from Makoto.
The group also gained an ally in the form of Joe Okada, who they later learned was actually Jonathan Klondike, Marie Ange's fiance and another survivor of the Trump Kingdom. They also discovered a mysterious baby fairy named Ai, who had the power to create new Loveads. A turning point for Mana, however, was encountering the supposed daughter of the Selfishness king, Regina, who became taken with Mana and wanted to become her friend. Eventually, through many hardships, they found what was supposedly Marie Ange's frozen body and convinced Regina to switch sides to help them... only for the Selfishness to take her back and for her father to brainwash her back to the side of evil. If not for the intervention of a new Precure named Cure Ace, Mana and the others would have been defeated by Regina.
After she overcame depression caused by the loss of Regina, Mana and the others learned Cure Ace was actually a young girl named Madoka Aguri, who had the power to assume an older form when she transformed. Cure Ace helped them all gain new strength, defeating new enemies while also gaining new powers in the form of the Magical Lovely Pad, which was created from a relic called the Crystal Mirror, which was one of three treasures wielded by a group of ancient Precure.
Eventually, Regina emerged again, claiming another one of the treasures: the Miracle Dragon Glaive. Eventually the truth came out when the third treasure, the Eternal Golden Crown, was discovered. Regina, Ai, and Aguri were actually three parts of the same being: Marie Ange. Formed when Ange refused to become a Selfishness, Aguri was formed from the light side of Ange's heart and Regina the dark, while her body became Ai. Likewise, King Selfishness was actually the king of the Trump Kingdom, who'd been overtaken by the original Selfishness when he'd attempted to save Ange's life several years before.
What followed was an all out invasion of Mana and the others' home city, in which the group battled King Selfishness. In the course of the battle, Mana's feelings finally reached Regina, and they brought her over to their side. Finally, they all managed to fight their way through King Selfishness's massive body and free the King from the original Selfishness's hold inside, supposedly ending the battle. However, one of King Selfishness's minions, Bel, claimed the last vestiges of the original Selfishness's power for himself... only to be similarly overtaken by it. The group battled the "Proto-Selfishness", only for it to seemingly poison Mana's heart with darkness and tear it out, trying to transform it into a Selfishness. However, Mana showed an incredible force of will and reclaimed her own heart, fighting back the darkness. Subsequently, Mana borrowed the powers of all her fellow Precure as well as the three treasures, assuming a more powerful form that managed to ultimately purify their enemy.
In the wake of this final battle, Mana's identity as a Precure was exposed. As such, she and her teammates openly became heroes, even gaining the approval of the Japanese prime minister, who called upon them for assistance in various disasters. Aside from that, life returned to normal for Mana and the other Precure.
